Charges Dropped for Champaign Man

CHAMPAIGN IL - The Champaign City Council approved a settlement with a man who claimed police used excessive force when they arrested him last year. The council awarded forty five thousand dollars to Brandon Ward.

Champaign police stopped Ward for jay-walking and resisting an officer in June of 2011. Ward was charged with a felony, when the dash cam video was released the officer was pepper spraying him and lunging at him. The charges were dropped when Ward filed a complaint last year.

The Council hopes the settlement will help the city move forward.
