DECATUR- More than a thousand people gathered Thursday night to honor those who have fought cancer and won, with help from local doctors. More than 500 people in the room were cancer survivors.
The event marked the 25th annual National Cancer Survivors Day. The guests enjoyed dinner at the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel, hosted by Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois, Decatur Memorial Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital.
Doctors emphasized the need for early detection so the disease can be treated early, and the disease stopped before it is too late.
