Search of Inmates' cells turn up 21 weapons

Springfield, Ill. (AP) - 21 weapons were found this week during searches of inmates' cells at the Menard prison.

That's according to Kevin Hirsch, president of the union representing correctional officers where an officer was attacked Sunday.

Hirsch says he hasn't seen that many found during a shakedown since the 1990's.

Hirsch says the objects were plastic or metal and were altered in ways that could cause injury.
