Springfield - People were walking for a good cause in central Illinois this weekend.
The American Red Cross hosted a walk-a-thon to benefit the meals on wheels program in Washington Park in Springfield on Saturday.
Thanks to the fundraising efforts over $5,000 dollars was raised.
The American Red cross' development coordinator says these types of events are what helps this important program keep going every year.
"Meals on Wheels depends heavily on fundraising programs like this and also from some major grants that we receive. Other sponsorships that we receive from local businesses and from generous individuals make it possible for us to continue to operate this program for many, many decades now," says Terri Hempstead.
