Taylorville - Sunny days in Taylorville will mean savings for local taxpayers.
The Taylorville Municipal Airport now has 80 solar panels installed. The panels will use the sun to generate electricity. The energy can be sent to the power grid or used to cut the cities energy costs.
"I think it is a great thing," said alderman Martin Vota. "It is going to help control some of the costs associated with running our city."
Mayor Greg Brotherton stated, "It provides clean energy for us."
The price tag for the solar project is $98,000. Sixty percent of the costs will be paid for with grants. "It saves taxpayers quite a bit of money," Brotherton said.
