Smokers To Head Across Border For Cigarettes

DANVILLE - A pack of cigarettes will cost a dollar more starting June 24th.

Smokers in Danville say they'd travel to Indiana to buy a cheaper pack.

Gas station employees say the tax will make them lose business.

There are risks though when buying out of state cigarettes.

American Lung Association representative says it is illegal to own 10 or more cigarette packs not purchased in Illinois.

If found with 10 or more, people can be charged a 20 dollar fine for each pack and face a misdemeanor, even felony charge, depending on how many out of state packs that person has.
