OAKWOOD -- It's a welcome back for race fans in Vermilion County Sunday night. After a two year hiatus, racing is back on at the Vermilion County Speedway.
"We've been waiting a long time for this race track to open back up," said fan Rick Moore.
Drivers like Curtis Evans said being back on the track is nice, but nothing compares to being behind the wheel.
"No car on the street could even imagine," Evans said, who traveled from Kansas City. "There's nothing like it."
"It's an adrenaline rush, for sure," said local driver Gordon Parsons.
Parsons was driving at least 60 miles to the nearest track. But now, he says he can save time and money -- now that his favorite hobby is just a few miles from home.
Drivers and fans are hoping the speedway will stay open. And organizers say with Sunday's large crowd, it likely won't be the last time gentlemen start their engines at the Speedway.
