Fundraiser to be Held for the Mount Zion Fire Department

Over two months after the Mount Zion Fire Department faced an electrical fire that destroyed four vehicles and areas of the firehouse, a fundraiser is being held to aid reconstruction costs.

Organized by Help Our Heroes MZFD, the effort will take place at Fletcher Park in Mount Zion on Saturday, July 14, kicking off at 8 am with a 5k. Other events include a car show, silent auction, Harley Davidson raffle, live entertainment, food sale and more.

According to committee co-chair Mark Scranton, restoration efforts have been steadily progressing. The fire department has ordered a new fire engine and ladder truck-- both of which were damaged in the fire. Station repairs are also advancing, as nearly all structural work is complete. Reconstruction is expected to be finished by November.

Between Saturday's event and a firefighter's ball planned for the fall, Help Our Heroes hopes to make $100,000. All proceeds benefit the MZFD.
