Local Leaders Work To Reduce Gun Violence

CHAMPAIGN - People can lend a hand in helping local leaders fight recent gun violence.

Local churches are teaming up with police for the Champaign-Urbana Gun Buy Back.

Anyone in Champaign county can drop up to 2 unwanted guns at the CU Public Health District and receive a $50 Visa gift card.

Stone Creek Church Lead Pastor Gary Grogan says the idea is to keep guns off the streets and help reduce the number of gun related deaths or injuries.

But Guns Save Life Director Roger Dorsett says this isn't targeting the real issue because they believe the real criminals will not turn over their guns.

The CU Gun Buy back will be held Saturday August 4th from 10am-2pm in the afternoon.

The event does not include gun dealers.
