Bagelfest Crowds Will Stay Cool This Weekend

Mattoon - The heat isn't stopping the annual Bagelfest in Mattoon this week, but it will be on everyone's mind.

The Mattoon Fire Department will have cooling centers throughout the festival to help keep people cool.  With temperatures soaring into the mid to upper 90's, the city is making sure people have plenty of ways to beat the heat this year.
According to one vendor at this year's event, it's not just the city of Mattoon helping out.

"If we have a bottle of water and somebody needs it we're more than welcome to it.  You know, if they don't have the money for it, we're not going to, you know, be cheap about it.  We can throw them a bottle of water.  If the kids look like they're real hot when they're riding the bull we'll be more than welcome to give them a bottle of water," says mechanical bull operator Hussain Hussain.

In addition to misters. the Mattoon Fire Department will also have an air conditioned RV to help out people who get too hot or show signs of heat exhaustion.
