PONTIAC, Ill. (AP) -- The Illinois Department of Corrections says it is investigating the deaths of two inmates at a prison in central Illinois earlier this month.
The department says that 65-year-old Richard Anderson and Jerry Singer, who was 60, both died the weekend of July 7 at the maximum-security Pontiac Correctional Center in Pontiac. Department officials declined further comment.
Livingston County Coroner Michael Burke said Thursday he is still waiting on results of the autopsy on Singer before determining how he died. Burke says he found no signs of trauma or violence on Singer's body.
Burke said Anderson's autopsy was conducted in Peoria County. The coroner's office there did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press.
