Homeless Seek Shelter to Hot Temperatures

CHAMPAIGN - It's hard to imagine life without air conditioning during these hot temperatures-- a challenge faced by some homeless individuals and families.

While many homeless shelters are open 24/7 during excruciating temperatures, Red Cross Emergency Services Coordinator Jamie Davis says there is a shortage of shelters throughout Central Illinois.

Many shelters, including The Salvation Army's Stepping Stone, have overflow facilities during times of extreme heat. But homeless are not guaranteed shelter once these buildings reach full occupancy.
