Suicidal Calls Increase In Champ Co

Posted:

CHAMPAIGN CO - The number of dispatched calls for suicide attempts increases in Champaign county.

Sheriff Dan Walsh says last year July, METCAD had 17 suicide calls.

This July they've already had double that number with 34 calls.

Sheriff Walsh says it's sometimes hard to find the person who calls because they don't always give their location.

Sometimes it's a friend or family member who calls in need of help for their loved one.

Clinical Professional Counselor Kevin Elliott says the higher number of calls could mean more people are willing to ask for help.

For immediate help, call the 24-hour Crisis Line at (217) 359-4141.
