Decatur - The finishing touches are being put on the 27th Decatur Celebration. The Celebration runs August 3,4 & 5.
"The energy is buzzing in the office this week," Decatur Celebration Producer/Director Lori Sturgill told WAND News. "That's how it will go all week. Everything is positive."
Entertainment is booked and electrical work downtown has been completed to power the Celebration. On Monday, carnival rides starting going up in the parking lot of the Decatur Civic Center. Thursday, one night before the Celebration opens, will be "Family Night At The Carnival". Rides will be open from 4pm to 11pm.
Adults will enjoy an "Authentic Summertime Winery Experience" on Merchant Street. If you enjoy fine wines you should be able to find a drink for your particular tastes. "We'll have five Illinois wineries set up," Sturgill said. "It's a nice relaxed setting with bistro seating. Right by the Caberet Stage with blues music all weekend long." Wine samples cost $1. A glass of wine is $5. Bottles of wine served in a carafe are available at various prices.
As always, Decatur Celebration has plenty of food and free entertainment. There are ten show stages and 70 food booths.
With temperatures expected to be hot there will be ways to stay cool. An air conditioned tent will be located near North & Water Streets. In Central Park Richland Community College will offer a water oasis with free drinking water. The Celebration will also have cooling stations.
The Decatur Celebration opens Friday night at 5pm with Opening Ceremonies at 6pm. The evening concludes at 11pm. Saturday morning at 10am is the Razzle Dazzle Good Times Parade. Following the parade the Celebration opens for the day at 11am and runs until 11pm. Sunday the Celebration opens at 11am and concludes at 9:30pm.
