Broken Water Main Fixed; Water Service Turned Back on in Illiopolis
Illiopolis - While some towns have gone to water restrictions, on Wednesday in Illiopolis something much worse than a drough hit the small town.
"We found out late this afternoon that we had a major water main break," says village president Robert Winters.
Workers followed the water main to find a cracked water main. They estimate that 100,000 thousand gallons of water had managed to leak 7 o'clock Wednesday night.
While the village's water department continued to work on the water main break, the local grocery store was doing everything they could to keep the shelves stocked as people were coming in to get water by the bottle.
"We've sold out, the shelves are empty. I mean, we have some cases of water left, but we're sold out of the gallons," says Johnson's Grocery Store assistant manager Rebecca Hutchins.
To the relief of the town's people, water service was repaired shortly after 10:00 p.m. Wednesday night. However, the village president says the town will be under a boil order till at least Friday.
