SANGAMON COUNTY – A fatal vehicle vs. pedestrian accident happened Friday morning at 4:45 am. Jason Van Hyning was traveling eastbound on Interstate 72 when he struck a pedestrian that was walking in the roadway near mile marker 85.
The pedestrian was fatal injured and died from the impact. Interstate 72 eastbound near the accident was closed while a crash reconstruction team investigated. Traffic was rerouted via the New Berlin Exit from 4:49 am until 6:30 am.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured; however his passenger was taken to Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. He has been treated and released.
District 9 ISP is investigating the crash. The identity of the victim is not being released at this time.
