Fatal Plane Crash


UPDATE: The Christian County Coroner has released the name of the pilot who died in a plane crash Saturday Morning. Coroner Amy C. Calvert Winans says 30 year old Brandon Sparrow of Augusta, IL was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday in Bloomington. Coroner Winans says, "This is a tragedy for the Sparrow family and the community of Taylorville." Many people in the community are calling Sparrow a hero for taking steps to make sure the plane did not hit any houses in his last moments. We will have more on this story tonight after the Olympics. 

Taylorville, IL - Saturday morning a plane crashed in the backyard of a Taylorville home leaving one dead and a community shaken. It happened at a home near the intersection of Morton and England Streets. Investigators have multiple streets blocked off and they've been blocked off for hours now as the FAA investigates this crash. Investigators say the plane crashed just after 11 a.m. Saturday and the pilot lost his life as a result.



The plane had 12 skydivers aboard who were part of the Skydiving and Balloon Festival at the Taylorville Municipal Airport. All 12 were able to make it out safely and were checked out at the local hospital. At this time investigators are trying to figure out why the plane crashed.
