CHAMPAIGN - Champaign City Council voted 8-0 in support of the Storefront Improvement Program on Tuesday.
The program will offer up to $10,000 to businesses in both the downtown and East University Avenue TIF districts. The city will match 50 percent of construction costs on ground-floor work and 25 percent for upper-level repair.
Only buildings constructed before 1940 are eligible for the grant. Jane Addams Book Shop Manager Judy Elmore said their store's 104-year-old building will likely be revamped under the program.
