Arrest Warrants Issued for Fourth of July Homicide


 CHAMPAIGN - Warrants have been issued for two people in connection with the shooting death of Desirae Austin in Champaign.

Treshaun Jake, 19, of Danville and Anthony Meads, 20, of Champaign  are accused of murder and bail has been set for $1,000,000 each.

Jake and Meads are currently in custody at the Vermillion County jail on unrelated charges.

Austin was found shot and unresponsive in the 1500 block of Cruising Lane after police responded to a report of shots being fired.

Mrs. Austin was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital, where she later died. Champaign Police took Jake and Meads into custody that night for questioning.

Meads was arrested for unlawful use of weapons and Jake was subsequently released after providing police with a statement.

Detectives from the Champaign Police Department and the Champaign County State's Attorney's Office have worked together since this incident occurred to identify the suspects and gather evidence against the individuals allegedly responsible for Mrs. Austin's death.
