CHARLESTON - Fallen Illinois soldiers were honored in Charleston today.
The third annual Run for the Fallen event kicked off at 7 a.m. on the Charleston High School Track. Nearly 600 people came out to walk or run a mile for the 252 fallen Illinois soldiers killed in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Teams from the Charleston School District participated, along with fellow soldiers. The day began with a 21-gun salute and performance by the Mattoon High School JROTC drill team.
