One Dead in Crash Outside Springfield

SPRINGFIELD IL – One person is dead, and two others are fighting for their lives after a crash just outside of Springfield. Police say a car hit a tree in the 52 hundred block of West Washington Street in Sangamon County around 3:15 Sunday morning.

23 year old Amanda Smith of Springfield died, and another 23 year old woman is still in the hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver, a 22 year old Springfield woman is in serious condition.

Deputies believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
