Food Trucks See Success in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN - It's been nearly three months since the City of Champaign launched its food truck pilot program.

Three trucks have received permits so far- Cracked, Crave and Burrito King. Although there have been noise complaints, Assistant Planning Director Rob Kowalski says the trucks have been successful overall.

The pilot program runs until June 2013, at which point Kowalski says the vendors, business owners and members of the public will be asked for input. Continued operations will be decided by city council.

At this time, the vendors are permitted to operate for two hours at a time in designated locations. Although most have been seen in downtown Champaign, Kowalski suspects business will move more to the campus-area come the start of the semester.
