New Radar Technology

LINCOLN IL – The national weather service will have more detailed weather forecasts. The weather service is planning a technology upgrade for its radar system.

The new "Dual-Polarization" technology is set to be installed in October, and will allow meteorologists to better judge Doppler readings.

Upgrading the technology will cost 225 thousand dollars, and will convert the forecast office's original Doppler radar system from horizontal only waves, to a system with radio waves traveling vertically as well.
