Decatur unemployment rate up, but more temp jobs available


DECATUR -- The numbers are out, and Decatur's unemployment rate is up. But there are jobs here -- you just have to look in the right place.

Decatur has the second highest unemployment rate in the state.. at 11.6%. That's up more than half a percent from July of last year.

Unemployment also rising in Danville and Springfield, but Champaign stayed about the same as July 2011 at 9.2%.

Free career services like Manpower in Decatur are helping fill temporary jobs in town.

Manager Leslie Kirby says, sometimes they have more jobs than available and qualified people.

Right now, they fill about 5-10 different jobs each week. Jobs range from clerical to light industrial work, and some positions lead to permanent employment
