DECATUR-A local businessman wants to change what's currently a soybean field into a destination point.
Gregg Meisenhelter owns 45 acres near the Red Tail Run golf course and Rotary park. He wants to build his own restaurant, and bring in other businesses like a big box store such as a grocery store, retailers, fast food joints a hotel and even an apartment complex.
Meisenhelter says he thinks there's enough demand here.
"I've lived in South Shores my whole life," Meisenhelter says. "I love what's down here. I just think there needs to be a little bit more."
Optimistically, Meisenhelter says you could possibly see his restaurant or apartment complex opening as early as next spring.
