SPRINGFIELD IL – Mysterious envelopes found at Camp Lincoln Tuesday afternoon forced the facility to lock down for nearly three hours. Approximately 240 Illinois National Guard employees were given the all clear after the envelopes substances were determined harmless.
The lock down was a precaution, and in accordance with Springfield Fire Department protocol.
Three envelopes were delivered all from the same source. The two unopened envelopes were turned over to emergency response and law enforcement authorities.
The Federal Bureau of Investigations is leading the investigation with assistance from the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office, and other local law enforcement agencies.
