CHAMPAIGN - Bike thefts seem to be on the rise in Champaign County.

Local bike shop wwners say they receive reports of stolen bicycles several times a day.

Durst Cycle and Fitness Owner Ronald Durst says reports this year have increased between 25-50 percent from previous years. He says reports are received from campus as well as residential areas.

Urbana police also confirmed an increase in bike thefts. From Jan. to Aug. of last year, 74 reports were made. This year, there have been 122 thefts reported during that same period.
