SPRINGFIELD IL – Vandalism and stolen property over the weekend took place at a Springfield park.  It happened at a playground off South Grand Avenue.

The playground opened just last week as a cooperative between the city, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, and the Family Service Center.

Ward 6 Alderman Cory Jobe told WAND "it is a disgust I am back here this morning after all the positive steps that have been made and the thousands of dollars that have been donated to this project, that we are back here today announcing nearly two thousand dollars in property damage, and theft that occurred here over the weekend."

Blue Cross Blue Shield has offered to replace the equipment. If you have any information about the theft and vandalism call the Sangamon Crime Stoppers at 217-788-8427.
