New Playground Opened at Ronald McDonald House

SPRINGFIELD IL – A ribbon cutting ceremony opened a new playground at the Ronald McDonald House in Springfield.

The play ground was built to honor Tess Drainer, a young girl who was born prematurely at Saint John's hospital in 2005.

Tess and her family stayed at the Ronald McDonald house for therapy every few weeks since she as born.

Central Illinois Ronald McDonald house volunteer, Kelly Thompson, told WAND " her facial expression when she pulled the plastic off of her sign said it all. She was thrilled and I think she very much feels proud about what she's been able to give back to the house."

Hundreds of kids will be able to enjoy the new playground. Springfield Ronald McDonald house serves more than 350 families each year.
