– The number of expulsions in the Springfield
School District has
dropped. However, the percentage of minority students getting expelled has not.
Black students make up
38 percent of the school population, but 65 percent of those suspended or
expelled in the 2009 through 2010 school year were black.
Administrators said the
numbers are a reflection of what students from low income homes often face.
