CHICAGO (AP) -- Chicago Public Schools has named a former Citigroup and Diners Club International executive as the district's new chief financial officer.
The district says Peter Rogers was named to the post on Tuesday after his appointment was approved by the Chicago Board of Education.
Rogers worked for 23 years at Citigroup, rising to become chief executive officer of the company's credit card unit, Diners Club International.
He now will manage the $5 billion CPS operating budget.
CPS Chief Executive Officer Jean-Claude Brizard says Rogers' financial expertise and experience will help the district address its fiscal problems. That includes a $665 million deficit.
The announcement comes a week after Chicago teachers agreed to end a seven-day strike, their first walkout in 25 years. They'll vote on a proposed contract agreement next week.
