Decatur IL – The Caterpillar plant in Decatur announces bad news for their workers. The company announced Monday morning that production at the plant will shut down for one week in November, and the entire month of December.
WAND News talked to Caterpillar spokesperson Jim Dugan this afternoon. He emphasizes these layoffs are considered "temporary" and do not mean the Decatur facility is shutting down. He says these actions only affect some people working at the plant. The people affected will be contacted individually.
Caterpillar explains the shutdowns are a result of slowing economic growth worldwide. Also demand not reaching expected levels. WAND will have more on this story.
