Police Say Game May Be Behind Random Beatings

CHAMPAIGN-Champaign police think a game where kids beat up strangers for fun could be behind a rash of assaults in the campus area.

Champaign police say there have been nine attacks since September 2nd in which a group of people approach a pedestrian and punch that person in the head, then take off running.

They say it is similar to a game popular in internet videos called "Point ‘em out, knock ‘em out."

Police have made three arrests so far in those beatings.  Even so, they're adding more patrols in the campus area and urging people to be cautious.

Police are still investigating and say that people in the campus area should be extra alert especially at night.
