CHAMPAIGN - Champaign teachers on Tuesday voted to authorize a strike.
Champaign Federation of Teachers President Cathy Mannen says the outstanding issue at this time is salary.
After taking a pay freeze last year, teachers say they deserve more.
The school board did not return calls to comment on Wednesday. Last week they released a statement saying they were "disappointed" that the union had planned the vote, considering the district had "in the last two [bargaining] sessions... twice modified its salary proposals."
Teachers say a strike is a last resort and they hope to resolve this. Two bargaining sessions have been scheduled for this month, Oct. 15 and 24.
