DECATUR-Three fourths of Americans know a victim of domestic violence, thirty percent of you know someone who has been a victim in the past year.
Dove Inc., helps domestic violence victims in four Central Illinois counties. Monday evening, they held a ceremony in Clinton to remember those who have died at the hands of someone they know and for the victims still suffering.
At the Church of the Nazarene people joined together in prayer, song, sharing poems and lighting candles. The purple candle, representing those who have died from domestic violence, the white candle a hope for survivors.
They also recognized people in the community who have been a big help.
Dove is holding for domestic violence awareness month.
The Macon County Candle lighting ceremony is this Thursday at 7 pm at the Central Christian church, 650 West William Street in Decatur.
The event in Moultrie County is at 7 pm on October 18th in Sullivan at the First United Methodist church at 210 West Jefferson Street.
And the Shelby County Domestic Violence program will be at 7 pm on Thursday, October 25th at the First United Methodist Church at 201 West Main Street in Shelbyville.
