JOLIET, Ill. (AP) -- A judge has delayed Drew Peterson's sentencing for more than a month.
The former police officer convicted in the drowning death of his third wife was
scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 26. But on Friday, Will County Judge Edward
Burmila granted a request from Peterson attorney Joel Brodsky to sentence
Peterson on Jan. 10.
Brodsky says he asked for the continuance. He says a series of strange events made it difficult to prepare for sentencing. That includes a motion filed by another attorney arguing Peterson deserved a new trial because Brodsky did a poor job defending Peterson.
Brodsky says Peterson told the judge he didn't authorize the other attorney to file the motion.
Peterson was convicted last month in the 2004 death of Kathleen Savio.
