Decatur - For most people, a garage is a place to put your car.
For Carla Shaw, her garage becomes a haunted house, and instead of giving people a good scare, she uses her haunted house to give to a good cause.
Shaw's "Haunting on Nevada" at 147 North Nevada Driver in Decatur has it all, and now she has turned her house of terror, into a fundraiser for the Macon County Relay for Life.
"We really enjoy doing that because cancer hits so many people and my granddaughter told me we needed to scare the cancer out of people," Shaw told WAND News.
Shaw's ex-husband, the father of her sons, lost his battle with cancer leaving Carla wanting to help cancer survivors and their families somehow.
That's where the "Haunting on Nevada" came in.
Carla Shaw's son,Jason, says he hopes the haunted house that honors his father makes people think about the importance of relay for life.
"I just hope that it makes them think to give a little bit to the American cancer society as well. Even if it's a dollar, or even if it's to somebody else, just give something," said Shaw.
The "Haunting on Nevada" will be open Saturday night and Wednesday night starting at 6:30 p.m. with all proceeds going to Macon County Relay for Life.
