State Police Stress Safety During Holiday Travel Season
SPRINGFIELD -- The Illinois State Police say they will once again increase traffic enforcement details during the upcoming holiday season. Travel increases dramatically during the holidays, and as a result, so do accidents.
Master Se argent Mike Vorreyer says state troopers will again focus on what they call the 'fatal four' violations: speeding, not wearing seatbelts, driving under the influence, and distracted driving.
"Traffic volume will definitely be at an all-time high during the holiday travel. There will be extra patrols out there to focus on these violations," said Vorreyer.
Last year, IDOT reported 30 crash deaths during the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year holidays combined.
