CHAMPAIGN - The South Side Elementary School in Champaign was the only in its district to make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).
AYP is determined through factors like standardized test scores and attendance. The guidelines fall under the No Child Left Behind Act.
The Champaign school district fell among the 82 percent of schools statewide that did not meet the federal guidelines. For schools individually, 66 percent failed to make the cut.
South Side Elementary School faculty says they believe the success is owing to excellent staff, parental support and dedicated students.
