Illinois employment offices close for holiday

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Offices of the Illinois Department of Employment Security will be closed Monday in observance of Veterans Day.

Regular office hours -- 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday -- will resume Nov. 13.

Services will still be available on the Employment Security website. Workers may apply for first-time unemployment benefits, complete certification necessary to receive payment, and switch the method of payment to direct deposit.

The holiday might delay payment of some benefits.

The Department of Employment Security administers unemployment benefits, collects contributions from business to fund those benefits, works to connect employers with job-seekers and provides information to assist career planning and economic development.

The agency has 45 offices across the state -- including the Illinois workNet Centers.
