Emergency Responders Learn About Child Safety Seats
SPRINGFIELD -- Car accidents are the number one killer of children in the United States. Many of those deaths are often the result of improperly using child safety seats.
More than 400 Illinois emergency responders are meeting in Springfield this week to address that problem. They're learning the latest in industry technology and practice so they can take that information home to parents in their communities.
Joe Colella, an expert in the field, addressed the group Monday morning.
"Unfortunately, because car seats and cars are so complex, and so different 80% to 90% of parents get it wrong. This effort of training people and then retraining them, is to provide resources to parents," said Colella.
