Following a recent article on the city of Danville’s incorporation of their new debt collection program, Rapid Recovery Solution released a statement.

On November 17, 2012, debt collection agency Rapid Recovery Solution released a statement following an article from The News-Gazette by Tracy Moss, regarding the city of Danville’s incorporation of a new debt recovery system that threatens a loss of income tax refunds to those who do not pay.
According to The News-Gazette article, “Residents overdue on city garbage, water and sewer bills might want to pay up now, otherwise they risk losing any state income tax refund they might be owed next year.” The article states that Danville is in the process of joining a number of Illinois communities that let municipalities recover any debts owed to the city, as well as be able to threaten debtors with taking away their income tax refunds.
David Wesner, corporate counsel for Danville, says in the article that although they are focusing on recovering late water, garbage, and sewer bills, the new program does not limit the city to which kinds of debts can be recovered. According to the article, if the council approves the program for Danville, they will most likely start on a small test run to ensure the information between city and state is without error.
