Anti-gun group gives 2 Illinois leaders awards

Posted:

CHICAGO (AP) -- Anti-gun advocates have honored Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn and Congressman Bob Dold with awards for their leadership.

The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence announced the awards last week.

They cited Quinn's leadership in the fight against gun violence, including attempts to keep Illinois as the only state that doesn't allowed concealed carry. They also pointed to the Chicago Democrat's recent proposal to ban assault weapons in Illinois.

The group also recognized Dold, a suburban Chicago Republican. The group says Dold crossed party lines to oppose "dangerous" gun legislation.

The council was founded in 1975 by several suburban Chicago women concerned about handgun violence. The group's goal is to raise public awareness and enact change in laws and behavior.
