Douglas County Police Seeking Information on Copper Thefts

Posted:

TUSCOLA - Douglas County Chief Deputy Peter Buckley says his department is investigating three recent overnight burglaries that took place at the Bryant Industries recycle yard on U.S. Highway 36.

On three occasions between Nov. 1-19, burglar(s) broke into facilities and stole thousands of dollars worth in copper wire, copper sheets and catalytic converters. Chief Buckley says a forklift was used during two of the three robberies, which have totaled over $15,000 in stolen items.

Buckley says they have persons of interest as well as evidence from the scene. He believes these incidents are connected to similar recycle yard burglaries that took place in Champaign and Vermilion Counties. Information is being shared between investigative agencies.

Anyone with information is urged to call crimestoppers at 800-280-8316 or the Sheriff's Office at 217-253-3511.
