Clinton IL – Living near a nuclear power plant can mean several risks.

Now there will be a free way for those residents to receive better protection. Soon thousands of homes throughout Illinois will receive vouchers that they can redeem for non-prescription pills.

The Potassium Iodine pills could protect the thyroid from radiation from a nuclear accident. About 60 thousand houses will receive vouchers by mail in two to three weeks.

Families can redeem them for a two day supply at participating Walgreens.
