TROY - Hundreds of law enforcement officers filled the Triad High School gym in Troy to pay their final respects to Illinois State Trooper Kyle Deatherage Saturday.

Deatherage, 32, was struck and killed by a passing tractor-trailer during a traffic stop.

The accident happened along I-55 in Litchfield.

Governor Pat Quinn released a statement about the fallen Illinois State Trooper.

"The loss of Illinois State Police Trooper Kyle Deatherage is a tragic reminder of the danger our sworn officers face every day as they enforce the law and make all of us safer," Governor Quinn said.

Deatherage, a 1998 graduate of Triad High School, began his law enforcement career in Staunton and was a Madison County sheriff's deputy from 2004-2009. He became a state trooper in 2009.

Deatherage leaves behind his wife and two children.
