One dead after early morning fire

Posted:

Clinton IL – One person is dead after a fire early this morning at a home in Clinton.

The Dewitt County Coroner is investigating the death of 88 year old Douglas Fleming.

Firefighters say around 1:50 Tuesday morning they responded to a fire in the 300 block of South Walnut Street. There were also other injures, there is no word on the extent of damage yet.

The Red Cross Mid Illinois Chapter assisted three people with a three nights hotel stay, along with food and clothing. The house has extensive damages, and the cause is unknown at this time.

However, Clinton Fire Chief Shawn Milton says a preliminary report says the fire may have started from a grease pan in the kitchen.

The State Fire Marshall and Clinton Police are investigating the fire.
