Tom Suhler's new art book, UnVeiled, skillfully balances the reader’s individual exploration of Suhler's imagery with his own guiding narrative.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) December 13, 2012

"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see." This quote from Edgar Degas is the opening line in Tom Suhler's new book, UnVeiled. With it as his driving force, Suhler skillfully balances the reader’s individual exploration with his own guiding narrative.

“In UnVeiled, I give the viewer a way of thinking about my imagery," says Suhler. "I let them know that each image was created with all these different layers. It is what they see that matters, not what I see or what the person standing next to them sees. My hope is solely that these images engage their imaginations."

Suhler’s images almost read more like sculpture than like photography. Photographer, painter, and author, Ron Stark reviewed, “As it should be, the elements of line, form, texture, contrasts, movement, etc…, are inherent in the art… Suhler’s UnVeiled is a visual treat!”

Suhler discusses his use of nudity, beauty, layers and story in creating imagery to engage the observer on both emotional and intellectual levels. He also shows how changing perspective affects not only how we view art but also the world at large. Text is sparse and spaced throughout the book, his goal being to give the viewer a small amount of context with which to frame the imagery and then allow the audience to reach their own conclusions.

"The difficult part is finding the balance between what to say and what not to say," explains Suhler. "I want to provide the viewer with some context with which to view my art. Then I want to get out of the way and let them discover their own insights and imagine their own interpretations."
