ISP issues reminder about driving in wintry conditions

Litchfield - The Illinois State Police says this week's storm should serve as another reminder to avoid driving  in  poor  weather  conditions  as much as possible.

During Thursday's winter storm the ISP handled approximately 62 incidents on the roadways.  Several involved truck  tractor  semi-trailers  which  rolled  over,  or  jack knifed across multiple  lanes  of  the  interstate.   These  incidents  resulted from the treacherous  combination  of  high  wind  speeds, ice covered roadways, and minimal  visibility.   Interstate  55  was  shut  down and traffic rerouted multiple  times  throughout  the  storm, so emergency crews could clear the Interstate.  No  personal  injuries  occurred  in  any of the incidents.
