Police Stepping up DUI Enforcement for New Year's

SPRINGFIELD -- With the new year just around the corner, police everywhere will be out in full force cracking down on drunk drivers.

Sangamon County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Jack Campbell says the number of DUI arrests were fairly low over the Christmas holiday. However, with the recent number of deadly DUI crashes in Central Illinois, law enforcement needs help.
Campbell says they want you to report drunk drivers.

"It will be kept anonymous, you don't have to reveal your name. Just give us a vehicle description, tell us where you're at, and let us try to locate it. You may save somebody's life by doing that," said Campbell.

Police say if you suspect a drunk driver, call 911. But, do not attempt to follow the vehicle.
